Set up the Seismic MCP server

Seismic's remote MCP server exposes Seismic Aura's Generative Search so AI agents can find and retrieve sales enablement content from your tenant. This guide covers registering an MCP app in Seismic's App Registry, configuring OAuth, and connecting the server to Mintive as a remote MCP.

Prerequisites​

  • A Mintive admin account
  • A Seismic tenant with Seismic Aura enabled (required to access the MCP server's tools)
  • Tenant admin access to Seismic's App Registration portal at apps.seismic.com

Register an MCP app in Seismic​

  1. Go to apps.seismic.com and sign in with your tenant admin credentials.

  2. Click + Create an App, enter an app name (for example, Mintive), and set the type to MCP app.

  3. Click Create app.

  4. Enable the authentication toggle and select Authorization Code Flow.

  5. Leave Require PKCE off. Mintive authenticates with a client secret, not PKCE.

  6. Under Redirect URIs, enter the callback for your Mintive region:

    The install panel in Mintive shows the callback for your organization.

  7. Click Generate to create the Client Secret, and copy it immediately. Seismic shows it only once.

  8. Under Scopes, confirm seismic.mcp is selected (it's the default for MCP apps) and add offline_access. offline_access lets Mintive refresh tokens without repeating consent.

  9. Click Save.

New client IDs and secrets take 5-10 minutes to activate.

Enable the app for your tenant​

  1. In Seismic Web, go to System Settings > My Apps.
  2. Find your app and enable it. This prompts a one-time tenant consent and completes activation.

Copy the client ID and secret​

  1. In the Seismic App Registry, open your app.
  2. Copy the Client ID and the Client Secret you generated. You'll need both in the next step.

Add Seismic to Mintive​

  1. In Mintive, go to MCP store > Manage store.

  2. Click + Add an MCP to your registry → Connect to an MCP by URL.

  3. Enter the server URL, replacing {tenantname} with your Seismic tenant name:

  4. Set Connection type to Per-user credentials.

  5. Set Authorization method to OAuth.

  6. Open OAuth Client Advanced Settings and enter:

    Replace {tenant-name} with the same Seismic tenant name used in the server URL.

  7. Click Create.

Security considerations​

  • Seismic's MCP server uses a confidential OAuth client with a client secret. Keep the secret out of version control and restrict who can view it in Mintive.
  • Each user authenticates individually through OAuth, so Generative Search and other MCP tools run under that user's own Seismic permissions.
  • Changing the app's authentication method or scopes in Seismic generates a new client ID and secret. Update Mintive's OAuth settings right after making either change.
