Mintive vs Microsoft MCP Gateway

Last updated: October 19, 2026.

Choose Mintive when you want one managed MCP gateway across clouds and AI clients, with SSO from Microsoft Entra ID or another IdP, SCIM, Virtual MCPs per role, per-user and shared credentials, Mint Guard screening, SIEM export and Agent Monitor for coding agents. Choose Microsoft MCP Gateway when you run Kubernetes on Azure and want an open-source gateway you deploy yourself, with Entra ID app roles on MCP servers and tools.

Microsoft also documents MCP support in Azure API Management, a separate managed service. This page covers the open-source Microsoft MCP Gateway.

Managed cross-platform gateway vs self-hosted Kubernetes gateway

Mintive runs as a managed cloud service, so admins approve MCP servers in an internal registry, run hosted connectors in Mintive's managed infrastructure, and give each team a Virtual MCP. See core concepts. Microsoft MCP Gateway is an open-source (MIT) reverse proxy and control plane that you deploy to Kubernetes, locally or in your own AKS subscription, to host and route MCP servers.

Identity and access

Mintive supports Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, Google Workspace and other SAML or OIDC providers for SSO, with SCIM directory sync, and SSO covers the OAuth flow a client runs when it connects to a Virtual MCP. Each Virtual MCP is granted to directory groups, and connectors use each user's own OAuth tokens, a shared service credential or cross app access. See SSO and SCIM and RBAC. Microsoft MCP Gateway authenticates with Entra ID bearer tokens and grants access to adapters and tools through Entra ID app roles.

Audit and guardrails

Mintive streams tool calls, prompts and access changes to your SIEM over OTLP or Splunk HEC, or as batched files to S3, and Mint Guard (enabled on request) screens the arguments and results of every tool call for prompt injection, credentials and secrets, PII and harmful content. See SIEM export and Mint Guard. Microsoft MCP Gateway exposes server logs, and its Azure deployment provisions Application Insights.

Operating the gateway

Mintive is a managed cloud service, and hosted connectors run in Mintive's managed infrastructure. With Microsoft MCP Gateway, your team deploys and operates the gateway, its control plane and the MCP server containers in your own Kubernetes cluster.

FAQ

What is Microsoft MCP Gateway?

Microsoft MCP Gateway is an open-source (MIT) reverse proxy and control plane for MCP servers on Kubernetes, with Entra ID authentication and app roles. Microsoft separately documents MCP support in Azure API Management.

Does Mintive work with Microsoft Entra ID?

Yes. Mintive supports Microsoft Entra ID for SSO, with SCIM directory sync, and SSO also covers the OAuth flows AI clients complete when they connect to a Virtual MCP. See SSO and SCIM.

Do I need to run Kubernetes for Mintive?

No. Mintive is a managed cloud service, and hosted connectors run in Mintive's managed infrastructure. For on-premise or self-hosted requirements, contact Mintive.

Does Mintive screen tool calls for prompt injection?

Yes. Mint Guard, enabled on request, screens both the arguments an agent sends and the result a connector returns on every MCP tool call. See Mint Guard.

How is pricing different?

Mintive plans are listed on mintive.com/pricing, with Mint Guard and zero data retention on the Enterprise plan. Microsoft MCP Gateway is free open-source software, and you pay for the Azure or Kubernetes resources it runs on.
