Mintive vs LiteLLM

Last updated: October 19, 2026.

Choose Mintive when MCP tool governance comes first and you want it as a managed service: Virtual MCPs per role on your directory groups, SSO and SCIM, Mint Guard screening on every tool call, SIEM export, and Agent Monitor for coding agents. Choose LiteLLM when you want a self-hosted, open-source LLM proxy across many model providers, with keys, budgets and spend tracking, and MCP tool access in the same proxy.

MCP governance first vs LLM proxy first

Mintive is a managed MCP gateway: admins approve MCP servers in an internal registry, package tools into Virtual MCPs per team, and govern every tool call with the same identities, policies and audit trail. Its LLM gateway (early access) adds model traffic with budgets per group and per user, and allowed-model lists per group. LiteLLM is an LLM proxy you run yourself, with routing, load balancing, fallbacks, budgets and rate limits across many providers, and its MCP Gateway feature adds MCP servers and tools to the same proxy.

Managed vs self-hosted

Mintive runs as a managed cloud service, and hosted connectors run in Mintive's managed infrastructure; for on-premise or self-hosted requirements, contact Mintive. LiteLLM is self-hosted: you deploy the proxy with Docker, Helm, Terraform or Kubernetes, and Enterprise adds air-gapped deployment.

Identity and tool access

Mintive's SSO covers both the web app and the OAuth flow a client runs when it connects to a Virtual MCP, SCIM keeps users and groups in sync, and each Virtual MCP is granted to directory groups so a user only sees the tools for their role. Connectors use each user's own OAuth tokens, a shared service credential or cross app access. See RBAC and SSO and SCIM. LiteLLM grants MCP servers and tools to virtual keys, teams or organizations, supports per-user OAuth and on-behalf-of exchange, and offers SSO and SCIM on Enterprise.

Audit and guardrails

Mintive streams tool calls, prompts and access changes to your SIEM over OTLP or Splunk HEC, or as batched files to S3, and Mint Guard (enabled on request) screens the arguments and results of every tool call for prompt injection, credentials and secrets, PII and harmful content. See SIEM export and Mint Guard. LiteLLM sends logs to callbacks including OpenTelemetry, Datadog and Splunk, keeps admin audit logs on Enterprise, and applies MCP guardrails before, during and after tool calls.

FAQ

Is LiteLLM an MCP gateway?

LiteLLM is an LLM proxy with an MCP Gateway feature. It routes model traffic across many providers and also connects MCP servers, with access controls by key, team or organization.

Is LiteLLM enough, or do I need a dedicated MCP gateway?

It depends on whether model routing or tool governance comes first. A dedicated MCP gateway like Mintive centers on approved MCP servers, Virtual MCPs per role, per-user credentials, tool-call screening and an audit trail per user. See the MCP gateway comparison.

Does Mintive have an LLM gateway?

Yes. The Mintive LLM gateway (early access) connects to OpenAI, Anthropic, Fireworks and Amazon Bedrock and assigns spend budgets to groups, teams and individual users, and allowed-model lists to groups and teams, using the same users and groups as the MCP gateway.

Can I self-host Mintive like LiteLLM?

Mintive runs as a managed cloud service, with on-premise or self-hosted deployment by arrangement. Contact Mintive for self-hosted requirements.

How is pricing different?

Mintive plans are listed on mintive.com/pricing, with Mint Guard and zero data retention on the Enterprise plan. LiteLLM is free as open source, and LiteLLM Enterprise is an annual contract through its sales team.
