Mintive vs Docker MCP Gateway

Last updated: October 19, 2026.

Choose Mintive when you want one managed MCP gateway for the whole organization: SSO and SCIM, Virtual MCPs per role on your directory groups, per-user and shared credentials, Mint Guard screening, SIEM export and Agent Monitor for coding agents. Choose Docker MCP Gateway when developers want to run containerized MCP servers from a signed catalog on their own machines with Docker Desktop or Docker Engine.

Organization-wide managed gateway vs local developer gateway

Mintive runs as a managed cloud service between your organization's AI clients and the MCP servers they use, so admins approve servers once in an internal registry, run hosted connectors in Mintive's managed infrastructure, and give each team a Virtual MCP. See core concepts. Docker MCP Gateway is an open-source (MIT) gateway that runs MCP servers as containers on a developer's machine or a Docker host, using profiles and the Docker MCP Catalog.

Identity and access

Mintive connects to your IdP for SSO and SCIM, and each Virtual MCP is granted to directory groups, so a user only sees the tools for their role and access follows as people join and leave teams. Connectors use each user's own OAuth tokens, a shared service credential or cross app access. See RBAC and SSO and SCIM. Docker MCP Gateway uses profiles and per-tool allowlists, a bearer token on its HTTP transports, and stores upstream secrets for the local user.

Audit and guardrails

Mintive streams tool calls, prompts and access changes to your SIEM over OTLP or Splunk HEC, or as batched files to S3, and Mint Guard (enabled on request) screens the arguments and results of every tool call for prompt injection, credentials and secrets, PII and harmful content. See SIEM export and Mint Guard. Docker MCP Gateway logs calls, supports OpenTelemetry, blocks secret-like values in tool arguments and responses, and isolates each server in its own container.

Hosting MCP servers

Mintive hosted connectors run a server's container image in Mintive's managed infrastructure, so members don't run npx or pip commands locally, and remote MCPs connect servers that run elsewhere. Docker MCP Gateway runs servers from the Docker MCP Catalog or custom catalogs as containers on the developer's machine or a Docker host.

FAQ

What is Docker MCP Gateway?

Docker MCP Gateway is an open-source (MIT) gateway, used with Docker MCP Toolkit in Docker Desktop, that runs MCP servers as isolated containers and exposes them to AI clients through one endpoint.

Can Mintive run the same container images?

Yes. A Mintive hosted connector runs an MCP server's container image in Mintive's managed infrastructure. See add a hosted connector.

Does Mintive support SSO and SCIM?

Yes. Mintive supports Okta, Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra ID and other SAML or OIDC providers for SSO, with SCIM directory sync. SSO also covers the OAuth flows AI clients complete when they connect to a Virtual MCP.

Does Mintive monitor coding agents?

Yes. Agent Monitor uses hooks in Claude Code, Claude Cowork, Cursor, Codex and GitHub Copilot to capture file reads, commands, MCP tool calls and prompts before they run, with rules that can block risky actions.

How is pricing different?

Mintive plans are listed on mintive.com/pricing, with Mint Guard and zero data retention on the Enterprise plan. Docker MCP Gateway is free open-source software.
